Entry too expensive: Fan representatives welcome UEFA price cap for away tickets
UEFA has announced a price cap for away tickets in European competitions.
The decision has been welcomed by fan representatives, who have long campaigned for more affordable prices. The new cap will see away tickets priced at a maximum of €70 (around £60) in the Champions League and Europa League.
This is a significant reduction on the current prices, which can often exceed €100. The cap will apply to all matches from the group stage onwards, and will come into effect from the start of the 2024/25 season.
The move has been praised by fan groups, who say it will make it easier for fans to travel to away games.
In a statement, the Football Supporters' Association (FSA) said: "This is a victory for fans. We have been campaigning for more affordable away tickets for many years and we are delighted that UEFA has finally listened to our concerns."
The FSA added that the price cap will make it possible for more fans to experience the atmosphere of a European away day.
UEFA has said that the price cap is designed to make European competitions more accessible to fans.
In a statement, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said: "We want to make sure that as many fans as possible can experience the excitement of European football. This price cap is a step in the right direction, and we hope it will make it easier for fans to travel to away games."
The price cap is the latest in a series of measures introduced by UEFA to make European competitions more affordable for fans. In recent years, UEFA has also introduced a reduced ticket price for young fans and a loyalty scheme for fans who attend multiple matches.
