A strong storm blew through downtown Buffalo on August 5, 2024, causing trees and power lines to come down. The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in the city, causing damage to buildings and flipping cars. The tornado hit Buffalo at 12:49 p.m., the National Weather Service announced in a preliminary storm report. The tornado had winds of up to 110 mph and traveled for about 1.5 miles. The tornado caused damage to several buildings in downtown Buffalo, including the Buffalo City Hall and the Erie County Courthouse. The tornado also flipped several cars and uprooted trees. There were no reports of injuries or deaths from the tornado. However, the storm did cause power outages to thousands of people in Buffalo.
