Argentina's Olympic Opener Marred by Controversy

Confusion and Drama in Stoppage Time

Crowd Trouble Erupts After Late Equalizer Ruled Out

Argentina's Olympic Games campaign got off to a tumultuous start as their opening match against Morocco was marred by crowd trouble and a controversial late goal that was ultimately ruled out.

The South Americans fell two goals behind to Morocco in the first half, but fought back to earn a stoppage-time equalizer through a header from substitute Julian Alvarez.

However, chaos erupted in the final moments as Moroccan fans invaded the pitch to protest the goal, claiming that Alvarez had been offside. After a lengthy delay, the referee consulted VAR and eventually disallowed the goal, sending Argentina to a disappointing defeat.

The incident has cast a shadow over the opening day of the Paris Olympics, and is sure to spark further debate about the use of VAR in football.
